This is what happens when too much people and the wrong soft people start surfing🤦‍♂, y'all don't tell me I don't know because I've seen an accident first hand, a man and a woman who both had no awareness, man hits woman in the face with his board, woman's face starts bleeding and she starts screaming, man doesn't know what the fuck to do, all at sunset when it's going dark, soon going to be dark, no one's going to be able to see, that's the shit I'm talking about

Nothing like a few laughs at some one else's expense. @brad , you found your new calling, your commentary is so hilarious. But seriously, the second last surfer, so committed on his back side, rail grab, and even after the nose gets buried, he pushes thru, and all while in the shadows of the shorey. Kudos to all these surfers.

playing in the ocean can be endlessly satisfying, but nature will test the unprepared.. One of the key elements of surfing is overcoming fear, and is one of the life skills exploring nature imparts, that wave pools can't duplicate. back when this spot was all bodysurfers, it was famous for broken collarbones, and lost fins. I still have to smile when I remember my first trip in the washing machine there. My skills were low and I was getting thrashed underwater every which way, which freaked my inexperienced self way out. Then I realized my nightmare could easily end, as a stood up in water below my knees.

05:42 Are you seriously kidding me? All of these people totally knew better to look for and not drop in on other surfers. I mean, it’s unavoidably crowded. It seems that people use that as an excuse to blatantly blow off any & all etiquette- not unlike how people treat each other in overcrowded metropolitan cities like NYC & Hong Kong, etc.

Pink board dude probably should or could have pushed the board over or up and over. I wasn’t there so just armchair quarterbacking. Saw that technique by Gerry Lopez at Pipe in a late 70’s surf move and it stuck with me; still use it in crunchy conditions.

Brad Your video shows EXACTLY what happens on a Wedge like slab, airials, getting pitched forward and backwards. Bill Haywood taught me to plane on my chest at Hapuna AND I ended up marrying a Newport girl who grew up 3 blocks from the wedge. On 10/28/87 Mile Stewart, and I, and one other guy rode 30' faces 11 to a set. Mike told me he'd just surfed that swell in Tahiti, then Hawaii, then the wedge for the first time! The register had a picture on the cover in the next morning of the other guy decked out in all yellow gear but they MISSED by not recognizing the world champion Mike Stewart!!! Ironically, it was best when there were no crowds, and you were competing with the Maui champions the Haywood's! Your eye gets that action and shows the mechanics of the wipeout everyone will eventually suffer. I've got the scars to show for the mistakes over 40 years.

There's a wedge in my area. The walls form a channel from the ocean into a lake. Beach break to the Sth of the channel, point/reef break on the Nth side. The Sth wall is shaped like a J, the beach break sitting on the inside of the J, but it's usually pretty bad for surfing. But the 'wedge' is on the outside of the J, hitting the bottom of the J. In Newport, the challenge seems to be not to hit the sand, whereas our wedge is all about not hitting the wall 😎. I don't think it's surfable, only bodyboards. I've watched a few times from the wall, but generally only surf the point break on the Nth side.
